I was thrilled when Sophia and Alan asked me to photograph their wedding at beautiful Farnham Castle, in Farnham, Surrey as it was the first time I had worked there. The castle is a spectacular venue with a Great Hall for the wedding breakfast, lovely grounds and building, and castle ruins in a lovely garden. I was so grateful to Sarah and Joe, whose wedding I had photographed last year at Lillibrooke Manor, for recommending me (Sophia and Alan had also been at that wedding and seen me at work).
Sophia and Alan met in Shanghai and their wedding had some wonderful Chinese elements to it, such as Sophia’s stunning dress and a spectacular Lion Dance after their ceremony. The bride and groom were keen on making the most of the grounds and the castle for their bridal portraits so this part of the day was longer than usual, and included a stop to look at the photos that had been hung from a tree in the grounds. This is one of the reasons I like to be flexible in my approach, so that I’m able to deliver the right mix of formal and informal photography on the day.
After the meal there were some very moving bilingual speeches before the Great Hall was cleared and prepared for the evening’s events. The break was a great opportunity for some informal photos, including some outside in the fading light of the Groom and his Stag party, before heading in for the cake cutting, bouquet throwing, and First Dance.
There are a lot of photos in this post, but it was a long and wonderful day. Thanks again to Sophia and Alan (and, of course, to Sarah and Joe).
